Min Nhar Li Mshiti (Memories From The Day You Left)

by Idan Raichel featuring Shimon Buskila.

This is the new song from the multi-cultural and most talented musician Idan Raichel.

The beautiful Moroccan lyrics (which were written by the singer Shimon Buskila and displayed under the video) are talking about his mother, but if you turn up the volume and close your eyes, you can feel that the song is about anything that you care most about.

It took me few listens before I started liking the song. Now I love it.

Just showing my support, even though it's too late now.

Many Rivers To Cross

by Joe Cocker.

Can't take this song out of my head lately.

Many Rivers To Cross
But I Can't Seem To Find My Way Over
Wandering I'm Lost
As I Travel Along The White Cliffs Of Dover

Many Rivers To Cross
And It's Only My Will That Keeps Me Alive
I've Been Ripped, Washed Up For Years
And I Merely Survive Because Of My Pride

And This Loneliness Won't Leave Me Alone
It's Such A Drag To Be On Your Own
My Women Left Me But She Wouldn't Say Why
Guess I'll Just Break Right Down And Cry

Many Rivers To Cross
But Just Where To Begin
I'm Playing For Time
There've Been Times I Find Myself
Thinking Of Committing Some Terrible Crime

Still This Loneliness Won't Leave Me Alone
It's Such A Drag To Be On Your Own
My Girl Left Me But She Wouldn't Say Why
Guess I'll Just Break Right Down And Cry

Many Rivers To Cross
But I Can't Seem To Find My Way Over
Wandering I Am Lost
As I Travel Along The White Cliffs Of Dover

Many Rivers To Cross
And It's Only My Will That Keeps Me Alive
I've Been Ripped, Washed Up For Years
And I Merely Survive Because Of My Pride

Ol' '55

by Tom Waits.

The first track on Waits' debut album, Closing Time, released in 1973.

The first video is showing the actual original LP playing.
The second video is an 1993 early demo version of this song which features Waits accompanying himself on acoustic guitar, as opposed to the piano of the Closing Time version.

I like both versions, but if I just had to pick one, I would go with the original. What do you think?

Thank you très jolie for this suggestion, I didn't know this song and now I'm addicted to it. Sorry it took 9 months.

UPDATE - again, youtube took down both videos. I changed the videos and they now have weirder videoclips, but the songs are still the same.

Well my time went so quickly, I went lickety-splickly out to my old '55
As I drove away slowly, feeling so holy, God knows, I was feeling alive.

Now the sun's coming up, I'm riding with Lady Luck, freeway cars and trucks,
Stars beginning to fade, and I lead the parade
Just a-wishing I'd stayed a little longer,
Oh, Lord, let me tell you that the feeling's getting stronger.

And it's six in the morning, gave me no warning; I had to be on my way.
Well there's trucks all a-passing me, and the lights are all flashing,
I'm on my way home from your place.

And now the sun's coming up, I'm riding with Lady Luck, freeway cars and trucks,
Stars beginning to fade, and I lead the parade
Just a-wishing I'd stayed a little longer,
Oh, Lord, let me tell you that the feeling's getting stronger.

And my time went so quickly, I went lickety-splickly out to my old '55
As I pulled away slowly, feeling so holy, God knows, I was feeling alive.

Now the sun's coming up, I'm riding with Lady Luck,
Freeway cars and trucks, freeway cars and trucks, freeway cars and trucks...

Today's Big Thing

Today's Big Thing website will bring a daily smile on your face with a very short daily video.
I know there are a lot of websites that meant to do just that, but this is the first time I really am smiling at each video.

Here are three examples (Don't forget to check out also the Dollar Menunaire and the Sarah Palin Piano Duet, but really there are so many more good ones on the site):

UPDATE - Initially I used Today's Big Thing original video and player but it didn't fit my blog's template so I switched to youtube...

Vacation in Barcelona - photo album

by me.

It took me a while but I finally found the time to upload my photos from Barcelona to Picasa.

I haven't used Picasa in a while and so I just discovered the new feature of face tagging in photos, just like in Facebook.
The difference is that Google will analyze the photos for you, and then will give you grouped thumbnails of faces of the same person, from all over your albums, to make it easy for you to tag him. This made the face tagging process so much fun, it almost felt like a computer game.
One funny thing is that sometimes I would get asked to tag a face that I don't recognize. After clicking "display this photo in its original context" I noticed that Google's technology just recognized a tiny tiny little face from far away or even on someone's shirt or something like this. For those faces, Google let you either "ignore" it or decide that "this is not a face".
If you have an active Picasa account I recommend giving face tagging a try. If you don't have an active Picasa account, there are so many other reasons for you to start using Picasa today!

The first picture is a screenshot of the face tagging process. Below it is a sideshow of the album, but I recommend watching it big and not that small.

UPDATE - Elad also uploaded his photos from the first three days we spent together. Until I will add his pictures to my album, you can watch it on Picasa.

A new DVD release featuring 13 of Warhol's classic silent film portraits which were shot between 1964 and 1966 at his Factory studio in New York City. This is the first ever authorized release of Warhol's films on DVD.

The music is an excerpt from the song "Knives from Bavaria (Spoonful of Fun)" by Dean & Britta.

I like it a lot.

Drive You Home

by Garbage.

My vacation in Barcelona ended with some surreal unpleasant accords, but as a whole it was very interesting and enjoyable. Pictures coming soon.

A major part of my time there I spent on rented bicycles. I'd drive around the city and get lost. On my last day, during a coffee stop somewhere, I heard this song.

It's funny how
Even now
You still support me after all of the things that I've done
You're so good to me
Waiting patiently
And isn't it sad that you still have to ask if I care?

I never said I was perfect
But I can take you away

Walk on shells tonight
Can't do right tonight
And you can't say a word
Cause I leap down your throat
So uptight am I

I never said I was perfect
But I can drive you home

I got down on myself
Working too hard
Driving myself to death
Trying to beat out the faults in my head
What a mess I've made
Sure we all make mistakes
But they see me so large that they think I'm immune to the pain

I'm praying for a miracle
But I won't hold my breath

I never said I was perfect
But can you take me home?

We're From Barcelona

by I'm From Barcelona.

Although this huge band (30 members) is actually from Sweden.

The second video is Freddie Mercury & Montserrat Caballé singing the song "Barcelona" in the 1989 ceremony that celebrated Barcelona's win for hosting the Olympic games in 92. This is Freddie's last performance (notice the lack of his famous mustache). The song became the Olympic unofficial anthem and I still remember how it played nonstop on TV during that time here in Israel.

5 more days and I'm there!

Street Wars

This is just so cool that I am almost speechless.

A real water-guns war going on in the city. You get a target and go play an assassin. If you manage to 'kill' your target (wet them) you get their targets.

God it is so cool.

Get all the details in www.streetwars.net, and who is with me for arranging it in Tel Aviv?

Weak + Her Lies

by Asaf Avidan & the Mojos.

I think Asaf Avidan is a very unusual name for this kind of singer. I think if he was called Joni Mitchell it would have made much more sense :)

"Weak" is definitely this band's biggest hit so far, but I must say I like "Her Lies" a bit better. And this live performance of the song (at the warm up show for Morrissey in Tel Aviv) is cool by itself.

For more songs check out the bands myspace page and its facebook page. I bet you'll like it.

Five Years Time

by Noah And The Whale.

Oh well in five years time we could be walking round a zoo
With the sun shining down over me and you
And there'll be love in the bodies of the elephants too
And I'll put my hands over your eyes, but you'll peep through

And there'll be sun sun sun
All over our bodies
And sun sun sun
All down our necks (?)
And sun sun sun
All over our faces
And sun sun sun

So what the heck

Cos I'll be laughing at all your silly little jokes
And we'll be laughing about how we used to smoke
All those stupid little cigarettes
And drink stupid wine
Cos it's what we needed to have a good time

And it was fun fun fun
When we were drinking
It was fun fun fun
When we were drunk
And it was fun fun fun
When we were laughing
It was fun fun fun
Oh it was fun

Oh well I look at you and say
It's the happiest that I've ever been
And I'll say I no longer feel I have to be James Dean
And she'll say
Yah well I feel all pretty happy too
And I'm always pretty happy when I'm just kicking back with you

And it'll be
Love love love
All through our bodies
And love love love
All through our minds
And it be Love love love
All over her face
And Love love love
All over mine

Although maybe all these moments are just in my head
I'll be thinking ‘bout them as I'm lying in bed
And all that I believe (?) might never really come true
But in my mind I'm havin' a pretty good time with you

Oh

Five years time
I might not know you
Five years time
We might not speak
Oh
In five years time
We might not get along
In five years time
You might just prove me wrong

Oh there'll be love love love
Wherever you go
There'll be love love love
Wherever you go
There'll be love love love
Wherever you go
There'll be love love love
Wherever you go
There'll be love love love
Wherever you go
There'll be love love love
Wherever you go
There'll be love love love

Wherever you go there'll be love

In the Groove Again

by Out Of My Hair.

Shana Tova!

If your dreams come true
And the ties are broken
I can hardly say
But the more you gain by being certain
The more it drifts away
Just get back

In the groove again
Watching shadows fall with
Messages from friends
I know the truth rings out
You're in the groove again
And time is falling down
This hopeful lover's pen
He knows the ink runs out

And the burning light should
Not be questioned
When you really have no say
'Cos the more you move in the
Wrong direction
The greater is the pain
Just get back

In the groove again
Watching shadows fall with
Messages from friends
I know the truth rings out
You're in the groove again
And time is falling down
This hopeful lover's pen
He knows the ink runs out

Words that told me
In arms that hold me
They always help the wounds to soothe
But the thought of simply opening
Fills me with foreboding
'Cos there's always things
I fear I'd lose

But if your song dies down on a
Ripped up curtain
You really have no say
But if by chance you get to hurting
You'll take away the pain
If you get back

In the groove again
Watching shadows fall with
Messages from friends
I know the truth rings out
You're in the groove again
And time is falling down
This hopeful lover's pen
He knows the ink runs out

High top chairs
They never stop me
From falling down on my back
Routes often evaded
Memory has invaded
And lowers my chin into my mac

But if your dreams come true
When the ties are broken
I can hardly say
But if by chance you get to hurting
You'll take away the pain
If you get back

In the groove again
Watching shadows fall with
Messages from friends
I know the truth rings out
You're in the groove again
And time is falling down
This hopeful lover's pen
He knows the ink runs out

If your dreams come true
When the ties are broken
I can hardly say
But the more you gain by being certain
The more it drifts away

It is still in Beta and some tests I have made returned funny results, but this is such a great step forward.

You should run your own experiments and let me know what you think (or even better - comment in my blog in my native language!)

This is only few weeks after the roads of Israel were finally inserted to Google Maps. Here is my new address in Tel Aviv, and here it is with the Hebrew names of the streets shown.

We Love Art

by Tel Aviv art galleries.

As every year, Tel Aviv celebrated the begining of the art exhibitions season with the annual "We Love Art" project - the open exhibition that takes place in the city's main boulevards.

More than 50 art installations took part of the exhibition and were placed in the boulevards. This year the exhibition was themed "Amusement Park which is like no other". And of course, all the galleries and museums in the city opened their doors to the public.

My new apartment (a post about this will be up one day soon) is in Chen Boulevard, one of the boulevards in the heart of Tel Aviv, and our balcony was right in front of all the happenings. In front of our apartment Hila Amram and Demi Livshits displayed their project - "Einayim Zazot" ("moving eyes") which is a cool and cute display of big plastic googly eyes on the trees. When I saw them from my balcony preparing I run down and asked them if they would like me to put some eyes on our balcony as well. They happily said yes and this is how our balcony was part of the display in the exhibition!

Here are few photos of this project, the first is our balcony as it looked from the street (and you can see me there too...) and the others are of some of the now-more-human trees. You can click on the images for a bigger version of them, or see the rest of the photos on the project's flickr page.

LHC rap

by CERN.

Everybody around is talking about the huge experiment that started last week under Europe and I have heard many dark forecasts of what may happen as the experiment goes own. In my new apartment we are even planning to host an "end of the world" party for the night before Oct 21st.

All I knew about the LHC is that it is going to produce black holes. And that sounds crazy. And then I encountered this song, written and performed by Kate Mcalpine (aka alpinekat) from CERN and few of her coworkers. The shooting was done on site.

UPDATE: Apparently, this is Kate's second try at scientific rap. Her debut song, "N3UROCH!P Rap", is about two physicists from Tel Aviv who imprinted rudimentary memories onto a network of living neurons.

Wasted

by Brandi Carlile (and Zoe).

I love this version so much.

If you had eyes like golden crowns and diamonds in your fingertips you'd waste it
If shining wisdom passed your lips and traveled to the ears of god you'd waste it
And so I hate you're overrated most revered and celebrated because you waste it

Then again it's good to get a call now and then just to say hello
Have I said I hate to see you go

Every time you close a door and nothing opens in its place you've wasted
And when you speak the words you know to those who know the words themselves you're wasted,
You're such a classic waste of cool, so afraid to break the rules in all the wrong places

Then again it's good to get a call now and then just to say hello
Have I said I hate to see you go

we are not athletes

we are not athletes is a site that I helped to build in the past month.

The site is about "two ordinary guys who decided to run the New York City Marathon to raise money for two great causes", and this is of course in their own words (I don't think they are ordinary at all).

In the site you can watch their training progress, bet on who finishes the race first and their race times, participate in an open "group blog" and of course, donate to the charities they run for, The American Cancer Society and Hole in the Wall Camps. After you donate you can add yourself to the donors gallery.

The website was designed and built by a very talented and creative designer, Chesley Andrews. All the photos and videos on the site were taken by Erika Kessel. I just helped a little bit with the php code.

I really love the result and hope that the site will fulfill it's purpose and raise lot of donations. This way we are all winning.

The duck on Tel Aviv's Municipality building

In homage to Dudu Geva.

The idea started by Geva himself in 2003 as an act of filling the city with happiness and free art spirit, which is higher then the officialdom.

The duck finally found its place on the corner of the building last April, three years after Geva's sudden heart attack.

I live really close, and I walk by Rabin's Square below it almost everyday. I like to watch the duck and it sure does makes me happier to see it over the gray municipality of Tel Aviv.

The first two images are from Wikipedia. The last two are mine, taken tonight with my cellphone as I walked by.

I Met The Walrus

by Jerry Levitan.

This is just amazing.

From the video description: "In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan, armed with a reel-to-reel tape deck, snuck into John Lennon's hotel room in Toronto and convinced John to do an interview about peace. 38 years later, Jerry has produced a film about it. Using the original interview recording as the soundtrack, director Josh Raskin has woven a visual narrative which tenderly romances Lennon's every word in a cascading flood of multipronged animation. Raskin marries the terrifyingly genius pen work of James Braithwaite with masterful digital illustration by Alex Kurina, resulting in a spell-binding vessel for Lennon's boundless wit, and timeless message."

Carlton Banks (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) dance

played by Alfonso Ribeiro to the music of "It's Not Unusual" by Tom Jones.

If you ever in the need of a spirit lifting, do like me and watch this video.

UPDATE: The second video shows a younger Alfonso in an MTV commercial for his own "Breakin' and Poppin'" dance instruction package.

UPDATE: Unfortunately youtube decided to mute this video...

I have added some more funny videos of Carlton dance, but what I recommend you is to put some song on your computer (preferably "it's not unusual" by Tom Jones of course) and play the first video, it's definitely the best one.

butterfly

by Western Sky Communications.

small changes to my blog

I decided to try some of the new features that blogger beta (http://draft.blogger.com/) is offering. Here are some of them:

- added a list of my latest shared posts from my google reader to the sidebar.
- added a live blogroll which also shows the latest post from each blog.
- you can comment on posts directly from the post page (thank god blogger finally fixed that horrible user interface flaw).

There are few more toys I would want to add to my blog. One of them is the Jajah button which will allow you to call me directly from your phone for free using the Jajah service. At the moment this seems kind of useless as this blog don't even get regular comments... But maybe the new inline comments posting will encourage you to comment more and I will not feel ridiculous to add the Jajah button :). I am using the Jajah service for almost a year now and I am very very happy with it. If you know anyone outside of your country that you would want to talk on the phone with - I recommend you give Jajah a test drive.

And don't forget to come back here and comment about it :)

Wild World

by Cat Stevens (aka Yusuf Islam) and Mr. Big.

Now that I've lost everything to you
You say you wanna start something new
And it's breakin' my heart you're leavin'
Baby, I'm grievin'

But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you have a lot of nice things to wear
But then a lot of nice things turn bad out there

Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
It's hard to get by just upon a smile
Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
I'll always remember you like a child, girl

You know I've seen a lot of what the world can do
And it's breaking my heart in two
Because I never wanna see you a sad girl
Don't be a bad girl

But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you make a lot of nice friends out there
But just remember there's a lot of bad and beware

Baby, I love you

But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you make a lot of nice friends out there
But just remember there's a lot of bad and beware

Waltz with Bashir

by Ari Folman.

I always thought the only thing that is holding documentaries from being highly popular is that they rely on the availability of filmed footage of the events. One of the main reasons I think Hollywood productions are so popular is because they offer a detailed and real presentation of the way the story in the film really looks like.

The "Animated Documentary" genre is free of this difficulty.

Last week I went to see the first-of-it's-kind "Animated Documentary" movie "Waltz with Bashir". The movie is all animated, but only to show realty as it was in the absence of the necessary footage.
In my opinion one of the best outcomes is that for the first time I watched a documentary that was able to portrait the dreams and thoughts of it's characters. Ironically, this actually feels like a more real and authentic documentary.

This movie is good for more reasons. Other than the great editing and soundtrack, the story is interesting. It shows some of the not-popular aspects of the non-consensus "Lebanon War" - mostly regarding the unfortunate Sabra and Shatila massacre.

My bottom line - I recommend you to watch it.

The image - birds fly in the streets of Beirut.
The video - Waltz with Bashir Trailer.

If you have an opinion about this movie or the story behind it you are welcomed leave a comment.

Real Love

by The Beatles.

All my little plans and schemes lost like some forgotten dreams.
Seems that all I really was doing was waiting for you.

Just like little girls and boys playing with their little toys,
Seems like all they really were doing was waiting for love.

Don't need to be alone, no need to be alone -
It's real love, it's real, yes it's real love, it's real.

From this moment on I know exactly where my life will go.
Seems that all I really was doing was waiting for love.

Don't need to be afraid, no need to be afraid -
It's real love, it's real, yes it's real love, it's real.

Thought I'd been in love before but in my heart, I wanted more.
Seems like all I really was doing was waiting for you.

Don't need to be alone

It's real love, it's real
Yes it's real love.

Moon River

by Audrey Hepburn.

The first (and last) time I watched "Breakfast at Tiffany's" was just a year ago. I was in a very unique place in my life, and was easily moved by this great movie. For a very long time I didn't stop singing this song in my head, and at times, when I didn't pay enough attention, out loud.

"Moon River, wider than a mile, I'm crossing you in style some day. Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker, wherever you're going I'm going your way. Two drifters off to see the world. There's such a lot of world to see. We're after the same rainbow's end-- waiting 'round the bend, my huckleberry friend, Moon River and me."

In My Life

by The Beatles.

Happy Birthday to me.

There are places I remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain

All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life, I love you more

In my life, I love you more

With Or Without You

by U2.

See the stone set in your eyes
See the thorn twist in your side
I wait for you

Sleight of hand and twist of fate
On a bed of nails she makes me wait
And I wait without you

With or without you
With or without you

Through the storm we reach the shore
You give it all but I want more
And I'm waiting for you

With or without you
With or without you
I can't live
With or without you

And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
And you give
And you give
And you give yourself away

My hands are tied
My body bruised, she's got me with
Nothing to win and
Nothing left to lose

And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
And you give
And you give
And you give yourself away

With or without you
With or without you
I can't live
With or without you

This song was inspired by a conversation Robbie Williams had with Guy Ritchie's ex-girlfriend Tania Strecker, about the way Ritchie left her for Madonna. Strecker quoted Ritchie as saying "Look, you know I really love you, but she's Madonna."

As for Strecker, you don't need to worry. She and Williams became a couple (ironic eh?) for a short period and today she is married to Anthony James de Rothschild, a member of the prominent Rothschild banking family of England.

Lyrics below the song.

I just laugh when I hear the line: "I love you baby, but face it - she's Madonna".

Sometime in the future I'll post 2 more songs by Robbie Williams that I love.

Oh, Madonna, Madonna

I don't miss you
just who
you used to be
and you don't ring true
so please
stop calling me
Your "I love you"'s
are ten a penny
You're dropping clues
like you've got any
You got to choose
There's been so many ohhhh

I love you baby
but face it she's Madonna
No man on earth
could say that he don't want her
This look of love
says I'm leaving
you're frozen now
I've done the freezing
I'm walking out
Madonna's calling me

She's got to be
obscene to be believed
That's her routine
Not what she means to me
I found myself
by circumstance
across a room
where people dance
And quite by chance
she' danced right next me

I love you baby
but face it she's Madonna
No man on earth
would say that he don't want her
It's me not you
I've got to move on
You're younger too
but she's got her groove on
I'm sorry love
Madonna's calling me

Oh, Madonna, Madonna

I want to tell you a secret

We're having drinks
with Kate and Stella
Gwyneth's here
she's brought her fella
But all I wanna do
is take Madonna home

I love you baby
but face it she's Madonna
No man on earth
would say that he don't want her
It's me not you
I've got to move on
You're younger too
but she's got her groove on
I'm sorry love
Madonna's calling me

popsickie

by Kai.

If I had to put only one video on my blog - this would be it.

Balloon Project Tel-Aviv

You fill up few balloons with helium.
You connect a camera to the balloons.
You release the balloons.

This is what comes up.

The balloons didn't fly over most of Tel Aviv's beautiful areas (like the beachfront or the white city), but just the way the idea became reality is so exciting.

The Man Who Sold The World

by Nirvana and David Bowie.

David Bowie wrote this song about his very confused self.

23 Years later, After Nirvana's famous performance of this song on MTV Unplugged, when Bowie performed the song himself he would encounter "kids that come up afterwards and say, 'It's cool you're doing a Nirvana song.'"

Lyrics after the video.

We passed upon the stair
We spoke of was and when
Although I wasn't there
He said I was his friend
Which came as a surprise
I spoke into his eyes
I thought you died alone
A long long time ago

Oh no, not me
I never lost control
You're face to face
With The Man Who Sold The World

I laughed and shook his hand
And made my way back home
I searched for form and land
For years and years I roamed
I gazed a gazeless stare
At all the millions here
We must have died alone
A long, long time ago

Who knows?
Not me
We never lost control
You're face to face
With the Man Who Sold the World

Dream On

by Aerosmith.

It's been some time since I actually posted a song in my song-a-day blog, so to compensate for that, here is a true classic.

This is Aerosmith's first single from their first album, and it became their first hit. Released in 1973, this song appears in many "greatest songs" lists and it's probably Aerosmith's signature song (by wikipedia).

On September 19, 2006 Aerosmith dedicated the song to captured Israeli soldier Ehud Goldwasser.

Leave Israel Alone

by Orit.

I wanted to post this for awhile now...

From about the video: Inspired by Chris Crocker's infamous and passionate YouTube appeal for people to leave Britney alone in the wake of her failed performance at the MTV 2007 Music Video Awards, Orit from Israel has created a passionate appeal to the world community to LEAVE ISRAEL ALONE!

Below Orit's video is the original Chris Crocker's one.

DropClock

Dropclock is a beautiful clock screensaver that features numbers set in Helvetica dropping into water in super slow-motion.

It's a 150MB download, but it is so cooooool.

Are You Lonesome Tonight (the laughing version)

by Elvis Presley.

Always makes me happy.

According to wikipedia, occasionally during live performances Elvis would randomly change lyrics to give them humorous connotations. In this version, recorded at the International Hotel in Vegas on August 26, 1969, instead of singing: "Do you gaze at your doorstep and picture me there", he sings "Do you gaze at your bald head and wish you had hair" (0:42 in the video). Apparently at that point he saw a bald man in the audience.

From that point on Elvis can't stop laughing. Pure and honest laughter.

As a bonus check out the second video, showing Elvis singing the same song - only this time instead of changing the lyrics to something funny, he just babbles. This performance is from 1977.

official black google

As an attempt to fight global warming, and as part of "Earth Hour" in Tel Aviv, Google Israel (google.co.il) has darkened it's official home page.

Ironically, on it's official blog, Google actually explains us why making it's home page black might be bad for our environment.

hhhhhm.

And an interesting fact - Because of it's Shabbat (Saturday) issues, unlike the rest of the world, Israel's "Earth Hour" have been brought forward 2 days.

Under the Bridge

by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Sometimes I feel like I don't have a partner
Sometimes I feel like my only friend
Is the city I live in, the city of angels
Lonely as I am, together we cry

I drive on her streets cause she's my companion
I walk through her hills cause she knows who I am
She sees my good deeds and she kisses me windy
I never worry, now that is a lie.

Well, I don't ever want to feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way
I don't ever want to feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way

It's hard to believe that there's nobody out there
It's hard to believe that I'm all alone
At least I have her love, the city she loves me
Lonely as I am, together we cry

Well, I don't ever want to feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way
Well, I don't ever want to feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way

oh no, no, no, yeah, yeah
love me, i say, yeah yeah
one time

(under the bridge downtown)
is where I drew some blood
(under the bridge downtown)
i could not get enough
(under the bridge downtown)
forgot about my love
(under the bridge downtown)
i gave my life away yeah, yeah yeah
no, no, no, yeah, yeah
no, no, i say, yeah, yeah

here i stay

I Don't Feel Like Dancin'

by Scissor Sisters.

This song was written with Elton John, who also plays the piano for it.

Songfacts.com claims it is a deliberate rebuke to the Bee Gees "You Should Be Dancing" (2nd video on this post), while Wikipedia compares it to Leo Sayer's "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" (3rd video on this post), both became hits when released in 1976.

UPDATE - Youtube keeps blocking this videoclip. So I've put a non-video version of it, and if you want to see the cool videoclip, click here.

Only You

by Yazoo and by The Flying Pickets.

Written in 1982 by Depeche Mode member Vince Clarke as a goodbye gift to the band. Depeche Mode didn't take it and so he went on to record it after forming the duo Yazoo with Alison Moyetit.

The first video is the popular cover version which was released in 1983 by the a cappella vocal group The Flying Pickets, which beat the original version on the charts.

The second video is an official remix of the song (made by Yazoo) which was released in 1999 and brought the 17 years old song back to the charts.

If you want to hear\see the original song, click here for the (funny) video clip (not the highest sound quality) or here (better audio quality but no video clip). You can read the lyrics after the videos.

This is for Julia. I think I saw you on the street today.

Looking from a window above
It's like a story of love
Can you hear me
Came back only yesterday
I'm moving further away
Want you near me

All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
And all I ever knew
Only you

Sometimes when I think of her name
When it's only a game
And I need you
Listen to the words that you say
It's getting harder to stay
When I see you

All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
And all I ever knew
Only you

This is going to take a long time
And I wonder what's mine
Can't take no more
Wonder if you'll understand
It's just the touch of your hand
Behind a closed door

All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
And all I ever knew
Only you

Lay Your Head Down + Chelsea Burns

by Keren Ann.

I went to see Keren Ann's performance last night in Tel Aviv and I enjoyed SO much.
The girl has an angel voice.

Youtube is filled with Keren's songs, one of them I used before, so I just picked two more for you to listen to before you'll go yourself to hear the rest.

Enjoy!

In A Broken Dream

by Python Lee Jackson featuring Rod Stewart.

I can hear this song over and over again.

Don't miss the awesome lyrics ("Good people are in bed before nine o'clock") after the video.

UPDATE - YouTube removed the original song. Here is a version of the song by Stewart with David Gilmour and John Paul Jones, which is very good too.

Every day I spend my time
Drinkin' wine, feelin' fine
Waitin' here to find the sign
That I can understand
Yes I am.

In the days between the hours
Ivory towers, bloody flowers
Push their heads in to the air
I don't care if I ever know
There I go

Don't push your love too far
Your wounds won't leave a scar
Right now is where you are
In a broken dream
Did someone bow their head ?
Did someone break the bread ?
Good people are in bed
Before nine o'clock.

On the pad before my eyes
Paper cries, tellin' lies
The promises you gave
From the grave of a broken heart

Every day I spend my time
Drinkin' wine, feelin' fine
Waitin' here to find the sign
That I can understand
Yes I am.

I sit here in my lonely room

Don't push your love too far
You know your wounds won't even leave a scar
Right now is where you are
In a broken dream

And don't you forget what I say

Nights in White Satin

by The Moody Blues.

Facts:
- This song is part of an album named "Days of Future Passed". It is a concept album tracing an "everyman's day" from dawn to night, from awakening to sleep. This song was last song on the album and represented nighttime.

- The song wasn't a popular title when first released because it was too long (7:38) and didn't get much air time on the radio. Only in 1972, after songs like "Hey Jude " (7:05) and "Layla" (7:02) became popular, the song was re-released and became a hit.

- The song was written by the band's lead singer Justin Hayward at the age of 19.
The spoken-word poem, "Late Lament", which can be heard at the 5:52 mark in the song, was written by the band's drummer Graeme Edge, and was read by the keyboardist, Mike Pinder.

- My favorite line: "Just what you want to be you will be in the end".
What is your favorite line? (lyrics after the video).

This is the original, full version of the song. Enjoy.

Nights in white satin never reaching the end
Letters I've written never meaning to send
Beauty I'd always missed with these eyes before
Just what the truth is I can't say any more
'Cause I love you yes I love you oh how I love you

Gazing at people some hand in hand
Just what I'm going through they can't understand
Some try to tell me thoughts they can not defend
Just what you want to be you will be in the end
And I love you yes I love you oh how I love you
Oh how I love you

Nights in white satin never reaching the end
Letters I've written never meaning to send
Beauty I've always missed with these eyes before
Just what the truth is I can't say any more
'Cause I love you yes I love you oh how I love you oh how ooh
'Cause I love you yes I love you oh how I love you oh how ooh

Breathe deep the gathering gloom
Watch lights fade from every room
Bed sitter people look back and lament
Another day's useless energy is spent
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one
Lonely man cries for love and has none
New mother picks up and suckles her son
Senior citizens wish they were young
Cold-hearted orb that rules the night
Removes the colors from our sight
Red is grey and yellow white
But we decide which is right
And which is an illusion

speechless

Daydream Believer

by The Monkees.

Cheer up sleepy Jean :)

Oh, I could hide 'neath the wings
Of the bluebird as she sings.
The six o'clock alarm would never ring.
Whoops it's ringing and I rise,
Wipe the sleep out of my eyes.
My shavin' razor's cold and it stings.

Cheer up, sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.

You once thought of me
As a white knight on his steed.
Now you know how happy I can be.
Oh, and our good times start and end
Without dollar one to spend.
But how much, baby, do we really need.

Cheer up, sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.
Cheer up, sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.

Cheer up, sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.

No Milk Today

by Herman's Hermits.

Another song in the "British Invasion" series of posts (As you probably noticed, I'm a big fan of this music).

This 1966 song wasn't Herman's Hermits biggest hit in the UK or the US, but here in Israel I can still hear it at least once a week on the radio. Read the cute lyrics after the video.

No milk today, my love has gone away
The bottle stands forlorn, a symbol of the dawn
No milk today, it seems a common sight
But people passing by don't know the reason why

How could they know just what this message means
The end of my hopes, the end of all my dreams
How could they know the palace there had been
Behind the door where my love reigned as queen

No milk today, it wasn't always so
The company was gay, we'd turn night into day

But all that's left is a place dark and lonely
A terraced house in a mean street back of town
Becomes a shrine when I think of you only
Just two up two down

No milk today, it wasn't always so
The company was gay, we'd turn night into day
As music played the faster did we dance
We felt it both at once, the start of our romance

How could they know just what this message means
The end of my hopes, the end of all my dreams
How could they know a palace there had been
Behind the door where my love reigned as queen

No milk today, my love has gone away
The bottle stands forlorn, a symbol of the dawn

But all that's left is a place dark and lonely
A terraced house in a mean street back of town
Becomes a shrine when I think of you only
Just two up two down

No milk today, my love has gone away
The bottle stands forlorn, a symbol of the dawn
No milk today, it seems a common sight
But people passing by don't know the reason why

How could they know just what this message means
The end of my hopes, the end of all my dreams
How could they know a palace there had been
Behind the door where my love reigned as queen

No milk today, it wasn't always so
The company was gay, we'd turn night into day

But all that's left is a place dark and lonely
A terraced house in a mean street back of town
Oh all that's left is a place dark and lonely
A terraced house in a mean street back of town
Oh all that's left is a place dark and lonely
A terraced house in a mean street back of town

Julia

by The Beatles.

The last track on disc one of "The White Album".
Read the lyrics after the video.

Is this the best love song ever written?

Half of what I say is meaningless
But I say it just to reach you, Julia

Julia, Julia, ocean-child calls me
So I sing a song of love, Julia
Julia, seashell eyes, windy smile, calls me
So I sing a song of love, Julia

Her hair of floating sky is shimmering, glimmering
In the sun

Julia, Julia, morning moon, touch me
So I sing a song of love, Julia

When I cannot sing my heart
I can only speak my mind, Julia

Julia, sleeping sand, silent cloud, touch me
So I sing a song of love, Julia
Hum hum hum hum... calls me
So I sing a song of love for Julia, Julia, Julia
