"Once"
First let me tell you I re-edited yesterday's post (starting of course with changing "Faith" to "Fate"). I'm sorry but I was too upset and some mistakes slipped through.
And after yesterday I posted the Oscar winning song from the movie "Once", today I went to see it.
"Once" displays life as it should be lived. It is so naturalistic. It displays reality as I see it. It made me feel so good to realize I am not the only one who think the way I think and act the way I act.
And the soundtrack (all of which but one song composed and performed by the movie actors themselves) is amazing. Check out the official site to listen to all the songs (along with videos and photos). I think I will post few of those songs here in the close future.
For me, watching this movie was the right thing to do. And it was definitely the perfect time to do it. I got out of the movie filled with optimism and strength (although I am sure the movie's end will not make everyone feel the same. I just think I saw a bit beyond it).
The only thing that disturbs me is the name of the movie. During the movie we don't get an explanation for choosing the name "once". I really hope the writer didn't try to say that these kind of stories can only happen once in a lifetime because I know to me it already happened. But actually it happened to me more than once already, so I guess there is no need to worry.
If this movie shows somewhere around you, GO SEE IT. If not, RENT IT.

Fate
I believe in fate.
Not in the simple "it doesn't matter what you do, it's all determined by fate" kind of way - I believe that if you are good to the world, the world will be good to you.
2 Months ago someone broke into my apartment in Tel Aviv. Of everything me and my roommate have in our place (and we have a lot), the robber "only" took my laptop, and my 2000$ in cash I had in my closet drawer (I am now an expert and can tell you that if you have any cash in your home - put it somewhere in your kitchen).
2 Days later I got a call from the foreign ministry in Jerusalem saying that they just changed their tax procedures for all their world-wide consulates. I was informed I am retroactively entitled for tax refund... of 2000$.
These kind of things happened to me all my life.
3 Years ago I followed my heart half the globe from India to Utah. I was in the middle of my 9 months life long planned journey in India as I canceled everything to go tell a girl I met few months before that I love her. I also decided not to tell her I am coming and just knock on her door and surprise her.
Although I didn't know what to expect, I didn't expect she will ask me to leave after 4 days.
Then, when I went to New York to get on a flight back to Israel, I was contacted by a friend at the Israeli Consulate in Manhattan asking if I am still in India. She said that if not, they want me to come and be their webmaster.
I had to agree. It was as if fate was shouting to me "you did the right thing coming here". 3 Months later I met the most beautiful girl on earth in a books booth at a Christmas fair. I fell in love as never before.
Fate.
Today I was very sad. As I was staring at the laptop screen, tears in my eyes, I felt I have to find a way to check what my fate is trying to tell me.
I went to wikipedia, and clicked on the "Random Article" button.
This is what came up.
Things will get better. I just need to keep be good to the world.
And wait a month.

Don't Look Back In Anger

It's an Oasis fiesta today.
From the lyrics: "Stand up beside the fireplace / Take that look from off your face" - Peggy Gallagher's (the songwriter's mother) instructions to Noel (the songwriter) when he would have his photograph taken next to the fireplace when he was a child.
This performance is from the MTV Unplugged series. Oasis show was almost canceled when brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher got into an argument in which Liam (Oasis's lead singer) proclaimed Oasis were nothing without him, and wished to prove this by letting Noel (Oasis Main songwriter and guitarist) and the remaining three members perform without him. Noel then took over for vocals and sang for every song during the concert (which didn't affect much on this song because this is usually performed by Noel anyway).
The song has become a favorite at Oasis' live performances. Check out this live performance in Manchester, and if at this point you haven't had enough of "Don't Look Back In Anger", check out the official US video.

As a compensation, the next few days will have really really great songs.
This is a cover to one of U2's greatest hits, and one of the best songs of the 90's. It is part of Johnny Cash's "American series" - 5 albums filled with covers to songs Cash liked most.
Two interesting trivia details about this series are: 1. Each album in the series won at least one Grammy award, and 2. The 5th album in the series was released after Cash's death on September 2003 (4 months after the death of his wife June Carter), and the 6th is about to be released soon.
This song is from the album "American III: Solitary Man".

The Bubble Project

My dad loves this song. It's his favorite tune to play on the guitar. I sometimes even catch him sing it while listening to it on the phone when someone puts him on hold (apparently it is one of the favorite "listen while you wait" songs in telephone switchboards).
This song has a long history and so many covers. Coldcut's version the my favorite (though I hate the videoclip).

Across the Universe

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the day The Beatles recorded the song (and few other anniversarys), NASA will beam this song to deep space, towards the North Star, Polaris.
